What To Do After Working Out?

On Fire Fitness & Physical Therapy has one mission: promoting fitness, health and lifestyle changes we all need to stay happy and healthy well into our senior years.

So you’ve just finished an intense workout – what’s next? Chances are, your body is screaming for nourishment, and you’re probably overwhelmed with all of the potential post-workout recovery options. In this blog post, we’ll outline four simple things to do after working out that will help your body recover quickly and refuel properly. Keep reading to learn more!

Don’t forget to Hydrate

You want to hydrate after a workout, but there’s no need for the extra sugar found in sports drinks. So instead of chugging down some water with an exorbitant amount of calories and additives that could lead you towards obesity-related health problems like diabetes or high cholesterol levels—not just belly fat!—try drinking one cup (500 milliliters) per pound lost during your activity.

It might seem difficult at first due to both practicality as well as taste preference; however, this will become easier over time if done regularly.

Stretch your muscles

Stretching can help to reduce soreness, accelerate your recovery process and increase your range of motion. The Mayo Clinic offers this guide for basic stretches:  Lie on the floor with one leg bent at the knee so it’s flat against your upper thigh or parallels with the ground while maintaining symmetry across both sides (protracted position). Place hand next to opposite foot if necessary in order maintain an equal distance between hands.

Cool down

The key to avoiding lightheadedness or dizziness after exercise is allowing your body time for its blood vessels returns back into normal shape. So, if you’re on the treadmill and noticed that it’s hard enough without going any faster – don’t! Instead use their cool-down setting which helps reduce temperature change within muscles, therefore, preventing injury caused by sudden increases in strain during intense workouts like runs; alternatively, take a walk depending on how much intensity was used (light walks are better than heavy jogging).

Change your sweaty clothes

You know that you should change your clothes before leaving the house, but maybe there is not enough time. You can remove any wet clothing like bra and underwear to prevent breakouts or skin infections from happening on their own!

Hit the shower

Do you have a regular shower and just want to change it up? Try lowering the temperature of your water. A cool blast can increase healing, lower inflammation levels which will reduce soreness in the morning!

Have a healthy snack

Instead of satisfying your sweet tooth with an overpriced bowl of rocky road ice cream, try something healthier and guilt-free. While junk food will only undo the hard work you’ve put in during workouts by adding back all those calories – sometimes even more!– there are other ways for people to maximize their exercise sessions without cutting too many carbs or eating sloppily before working out (leaving them famished). The key? Eat right so that when push comes to shove on that next leg day at the gym, muscle recovery becomes easier than ever!

Let your body muscles heal naturally

Don’t go nuts tomorrow! You’re not going to get anywhere with your fitness routine if you keep doing the same workout every day. Make sure and give yourself some time for rest and recovery so that when it’s time, your muscles can heal properly in preparation of a new session or training plan next week – which will be more intense than what we did today but also much better suited toward our goal at hand: building muscle mass over the fat loss (so let us know how this has been working out).

You’ve just had an awesome workout. Your muscles are tired, but you know it’s important not to stop there. Here are some things you need to do after working out in order for your body to recover and heal naturally. Don’t forget that hydration is key!
